Achieving a More Environmentally Active and Sustainable San Carlos
SAN CARLOS GREEN INITIATIVES
- Reducing Waste and Providing for the Safe Disposal of Hazardous Materials:
- Work with the City Council in development of a Zero Waste Policy
- Improve recycling in homes, businesses and city buildings
- Spearhead community volunteer programs to reduce waste in our parks and schools.
- Increasing Energy and Water Conservation:
- Spearhead energy audit and efficiency upgrades of City buildings
- Organize community volunteer programs to improve energy and water efficiency in homes and businesses
- Promote the use of solar energy
- Encourage mass transit and carpooling
- Promoting Green Buildings:
- Work with the city to implement best practices and proposed policy language for Green Building policy
- Organize informational workshops on Green Building construction and remodeling
- Implementing Sustainable Landscaping and Maintenance Practices:
- Work with city staff to support and expand its integrated pest management program (IPM)
- Encourage reduction or elimination of chemical and water use in home landscapes and the increased use of native plants
- Manage Vista Park as a model for IPM and native plant landscaping
- Enhancing the Urban Tree Canopy:
- Implement community volunteer tree-planting program
- Encourage tree planting on private property
- Participating in the City’s General Plan Revision Process:
- Coordinate with City Council and staff to develop General Plan recommendations addressing a variety of issues related to conservation and the environment.
- Developing a policy evaluation system
