Achieving a More Environmentally Active and Sustainable San Carlos

Hazardous Household Waste Curbside Pickup Program

May 1 San Carlos residents will have a new curbside collection program that provides a safe and convenient way to properly recycle old paint, solvents, insecticides, cleaning products, fluorescent lamps, laptops, computers, monitors, TVs and sharps. This innovative program benefits San Carlos by providing a convenient way for residents to clean out their garage of this old hazardous material. Also, many residents may improperly dispose of these hazardous materials which then pollute our water and air.

This material will not be collected alongside your current recycling programs! Instead, residents will call a toll free number or send an email to order a "kit bag" from a new collection company called Curbside, Inc. Residents need to properly follow the guidelines included in the kit and schedule an appointment for its collection. Curbside, Inc. will then properly recycle, reuse, re-refine or dispose of the materials collected.

San Carlos is one of four cities in the South Bayside Waste Management Authority (SBWMA) that will provide this new program to single-family and multi-family residents. The SBWMA is a joint powers authority of 12 member agencies in San Mateo County and is a leader in implementing innovative waste reduction and recycling programs. The San Carlos City Council approved the program to make it easy and cost effective for the San Carlos community to handle hazardous waste and protect our environment.

For expect more information on the new program to be posted on SBWMA website and we will keep you all posted as soon as we get more information.
