Achieving a More Environmentally Active and Sustainable San Carlos

San Carlos Schools Take the Drive Less Challenge!
All the elementary and middle schools in San Carlos are taking part in the Drive Less Challenge, which will run from April 6th to April 15th. These eight schools have over 3,000 students that are invited to participate through several school-specific activities. More information will be provided to schools through their coordinators.

The goal of the Challenge is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by encouraging our community to drive less. At our schools, we are seeking to reduce car congestion, increase student safety, and promote healthy habits. We invite families to participate in this community event together with friends, neighbors, or co-workers.

Thank You to our Sponsors!  - View the list

Why drive less?

Cars and light duty trucks are the biggest source of greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution in the Bay Area. Greenhouse gas emissions are a direct contributor of severe climate change and air pollution is a serious public health concern, especially for children under the age of 14.

How do I participate in the Drive Less Challenge?

Look for information from your school coordinators, via the main communication avenues such as the school newsletter, online notifications, and student folders. Follow their directions and guidelines and have fun!

The whole community is encouraged to participate. If you are not a student, you too can drive less. Make sure you track all the green trips that each family member takes between April 5th and April 15th. You can download our Daily Log Form and write it all down in one page.

After the challenge is over, please fill out our online survey and tell us about your green trips. This is the only way for us to calculate the number of participants in the Challenge. And this is what you'll accomplish:

    • All students from San Carlos elementary and middle schools whose parents/guardians sign them up through this website will automatically get a coupon from Harmony to "buy one and get one free" of any of their product offerings.
    • You and any other members of your family that sign up will qualify for additional prizes from our generous sponsors by entering into a friendly competition with other San Carlos residents.
Check out the great list of prizes!
