San
Carlos City Council Votes for a Green Building Ordinance! The
San
Carlos City Council voted to include a Green Building Ordinance in the City's Climate Action Plan at their October 12 session. This is a huge step forward for San Carlos and success for SCG as it lays a vision for meeting our emission reduction goal while reducing energy and water use and increasing waste diversion from buildings while saving natural resources and improving health. Buildings produce nearly 40% of our City's greenhouse gas emissions and this measure has the highest impact on those emissions while providing the second highest return on investment. City staff will now prepare estimates for two directions on implementation - a custom approach and one that is in alignment with the County and neighboring cities. We thank the Mayor and City Council for voting for a Green Building Ordinance in the Climate Action Plan to reduce our community's carbon footprint and protect our
future.

we provided to Council in support of a Green Building Ordinance. We also encourage you
to stay informed and get involved by attending upcoming City meetings
and reviewing related announcements and materials

Opportunity to Reduce our Waste Stream by up
to 20%
Did you know that
Food waste makes up over 20% of our landfills?
Our waste creates Methane Gas which is 21 times more potent
than Carbon Dioxide as a greenhouse gas?
On August 11, the City Council voted to accept Allied Waste’s proposal to
collect our food waste (including pizza boxes, food soiled paper packaging,
paper towels, bones, cheese, leftover meat, etc.) in our green yard bin every
week instead of our garbage bin. This makes San Carlos the FIRST city in
San Mateo County to have curbside food waste collection for compost.More . . .
